Grading Explanation
Students are graded in five categories: Projects, Participation, Assignments, Writing Exercises and the 9-weeks test
Participation: Student participate in meeting instructions given by the teacher. For example, forms sent home for parent's signature are returned by deadline, participation in classroom discussions, maintaining the classroom procedures and standards, helping meet the sense of community and working well in a team environment. In most cases the assessment of participation is done on an individual basis but an assessment can be done on a group. For example, if as a group the maintanence of the cleaniness standard for the classroom is not met, pointage may be deducted for each classroom member.
Assignments/Projects: Student completes the assignment or project designated by the teacher. The students may participate in individual or group assignment. Factors of creativity, skills taught and meeting of deadlines is weighed in to the grade the student receives. Normally, assignments are done on an individual basis while a project may be done by a group of students.
Writing Exercises: Students are to write in various formats; from Journal-type entries to essays on technology subjects including but not limited to executive summaries or analysis papers.
9-Week Test: This test may take the form of a written test but usually is a specific project completed by the student to assess his/her comprehension of the concepts and/or skills taught. It may include analysis of real world examples.
I recommend that parents utilize the "Parent Portal" to keep abreast with your student's accomplishments on his/her road to success in this class.
Please note that a grade of "NHI" (Not Handed In) means that the student failed to turn in their work or choose not to do the work. I offer during the 9 weeks period Make-Up days where a student can turn in the assignment or a designated assignment to replace the "NHI" received. An "NHI" will post a zero in the TEAMS gradebook. The assignment will be graded and the "NHI" will be replaced with the new grade. Iam available before and after school to help students meet the challenges of this course.
Makeup Work, Extra Credit Work and Intervention Plan for Student Success
The timeline for completion of Projects and Assignments is generally quite liberal. With the exception of Writing Exercises which are due the day they are assigned, most projects have several days to accomplish. Understanding that there may exist specific situations that do not allow the assignment to be completed within the timeline, those situations will be addressed on a case by case basis.
In most instances makeup work can be accomplished within the given time frame. However, where the situation warrants extra time to be given, it will. It is the student's responsibility to check to see if any work was assigned during the period of absence and to make arrangements with me as to how the assignment will be made up. The assignments are posted on my website..
For an assignment that received a 0 (zero) for a grade, a recovery plan is offered. The student will need to complete and turn in the original assignment and in addition complete and turn in an extra credit assignment assigned by me. The maximum grade that will be assigned will be 90.
Extra Credit work can be done by the student to improve his /her grade. It is the student's responsibility to seek the extra work and to get approval from me as to what is to be done and in what time frame. On occasion I may offer the opportunity for students to earn extra credit but it is their decision whether they participate or not.
My Intervention Plan includes the following:
I am available every day before school except when I must attend a meeting.
I am available after school Monday thru Thursday but would student make an appointment.
My Intervention Plan weighs heavily upon the student seeking and taking an active role in becoming successful. As the saying goes, "You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make them drink."
I will do the best that I can to help my students SUCCEED!!!
